WAFWA
The Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) and its supporting foundations, Foundation for Western Fish and Wildlife and Species Restoration Foundation, represents 23 states and Canadian provinces, an area covering nearly 3.7 million square miles of some of North America’s most wild and scenic country, inhabited by over 1,500 premier wildlife species. Since 1922, WAFWA’s goal has been to support sound resource management and build partnerships at all levels to conserve wildlife for the use and benefit of all citizens, now and in the future.
WAFWA’s Mission is to advance collaborative, proactive, science-based fish and wildlife conservation and management across the west.
WAFWA’s Core Values are Leadership, Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence, Support, Respect, and Accountability.

The Desert Fish Habitat Partnership became an Initiative of WAFWA in 2024, joining the Western Native Trout Partnership. We work collaboratively with WAFWA leadership, the WAFWA Fisheries Committee and the WAFWA Fish Habitat Partnership Working Group to implement and advocate for actions that enhance and restore native fishes and their habitats across our 11-state program area.
The Great Plains Fish Habitat Partnership is anticipated to become the 3rd WAFWA Initiative FHP in 2026!
